2002 News
Here's all the news updates from the year 2002, which started off promisingly for Dead Corpse with the landmark gig at the Twist, before things went tits up and the band lost all sense of direction. Makes for amusing reading though...

Tales from the hardside
2/12/02 First the bad news, I guess. In true Dead Corpse style, the planned rehearsal on the 24th of November was cancelled at the last minute, but not because of Chainsaw Ward this time. Oh no, it was new member Bryan Mayhem, with an eleventh hour driving lesson throwing everything into fuckerysville. On the plus side, Bryan Mayhem finally has his spanking new amp, and rehearsals are surely just around the corner...Yeah fucking right. 21/11/02 Well it's been a hell of a long time coming but this Sunday sees the first Dead Corpse rehearsal since way back in January. The drummer problem is yet to be satisfactorily sorted (if you're reading this and want the job contact us now), so new rhythm guitarist Bryan Mayhem (Tom) is filling in on drums for while, with IHM on bass, the 'Saw on lead guitar and Stom Possessed on vocals and rhythm guitar. The rehearsal's going down at Tom's (i.e. not Bryan's) house, and hopefully should be the first step on the path towards a lot more gigging and general insanity. Also of note, Chainsaw is trying to sort out the screw problem, currently borrowing Bryan Mayhem's guitar for the rehearsal. A final note, since the last post on the news page, DC's newest member, Bryan Mayhem, has celebrated his 18th year, with one banger of a sweet party last week. 9/10/02 Another update for you sad bastards. As far as two thirds of the band are concerned, EFD have now split up, fellow band of Dead Corpse and close friends, apparently due to fears that they were about to be eclipsed by DC (ahahahaha). As a result, torturous rhythm guitarist Tom "Deth Machine" Harburt has joined Dead Corpse, giving us the much-needed second guitarist. Now all we need is the elusive fucking drummer. So far we've found a guy called Tim whose phone is always turned off, a guy called Nathan who was too good for our band and a guy called Will from a well good band called Solus who was frankly way out of our league. Following the EFD split, Tom of Dead Corpse has joined a new hardcore project with former EFD members Joe, Matt and Tom in an as yet nameless band, but don't worry, DC come first. Finally, today is Tom's (i.e. my) birthday, and I am too imebriated to write any more. Fuckerds... 3/9/02 Dead Corpse have been dealt another crippling blow with the news that drummer Rory, who was yet to be fully integrated into the band (i.e. rehearse with us) has sold his drumkit. For those who have trouble putting 2 and 2 together, that means we are again without a drummer, so the position's open again if you think you have the balls. The guitar saga also continues, with the news that Chainsaw may have to contact Jackson in America to get hold of that elusive fucking screw. Alternatively he might buy a new guitar. If it means DC are back in business it works for me. Aside from that there have been few new developments other than some tinkering around with savage riffs and brutal lyrics over the summer individually. But we'll be back with more news if anything happens to Dead Corpse to warrant it ever again... 18/7/02 As you may have noticed, two new pages have been added to this site- Gigs and Lyrics. Check them out now or perish at mine devilish hands. With spikes and nails. 14/7/02 It's 3 months since the last update, not because we've given up on the website, but because there simply hasn't been much to say. But alas, people keep pestering me to do something, so I have, although the main task to facilitate progress in this band remains the notorious "7 month screw fix." I'd like to take this opportunity to give Chainsaw another verbal kick in the pants... So, yeah, nothing much has happened, no rehearsals, Rory's still yet to be fully integrated into the band, however lyrics and riffs are still being churned out and tampered with by the individual members while they await the next collective musical skullfuck. Today's main addition is the new desktop wallpaper which can be found on the home page, some of you might recognise it as it was briefly the entrance page to this site, download it anyway it's fucking cool. A special mention this week to friend of the band Ben Drury, who turned in his last performance with Fat Camp on Thursday, a legendary performance, the reason for his departure believed to be that he's fed up of people asking whether they're called Fat Camp because they're an Elton John tribute band... 14/4/02 Fuck me, over 1000 of you crazy bastards have now visited this site, with nearly a year gone since its launch. I'd say that's not bad for a fledgling death metal band such as ourselves. Exciting things have finally started to happen again with regards to our grinding musical behemoth, with the addition, finally, of a fourth member. Rory Watts, yet to be given a proper DC christening with a fucking mental name, has taken charge of drumming duties, leaving Tom Possessed free to scream at anyone brave enough to turn up at one of our gigs. Within the next week Chainsaw's troublesome guitar should finally be mended and ready to thrash again, and rehearsals will start to flow again, leading hopefully to another bone-obliterating gig. Talking of flesh-searing live performances, EFD were on top form Thursday night, with all four members of Dead Corpse there to watch, two of them considerably pissed and also the instigators of the pit in a fairly reticent crowd. EFD needless to say murdered again, with the old favourites like Hardcore Number 1 and Ultimate Warrior getting heavier with each performance, and new songs like Tinker throwing another dimension into the frenzied melting point of killer music at every turn of the twisting skeletal road which leads to insanical oblivion. Also, the support bands were better this time, although one undisclosed member of the band was reputedly almost thrown out of the band for "butt dancing" to the Flukes' set for endangering DC's death metal reputation. Needless to say he was one of the drunk ones... 25/03/02 As you can see, the renovation of the DC site is now complete, hope you like the sleek, white look, if not you can go and fuck yourself with a septic spike for all we care. One of the main additions is the wealth of new photos, particularly in the Images section, where a selection of shots from the day of the gig can be found. The major subtraction that has taken place is the removal of that fucking stupid message board that no-one ever used. So get looking round the site, get mailing us and don't forget to sign the guestbook, however many times you've signed it before. 13/3/02 Jesus Christ, haven't seen you lot in a while. This week Dead Corpse were quick to play down rumours that they are dead, insisting "We are not dead," although Tom has been looking pretty rough. The band have done fuck all since the gig aside from one rehearsal, due to Chainsaw's guitar taking a mighty assfuck of a beating at the gig due to the intensity of his playing, and it needs to be fixed before the band moves on. Secondly, and here's where you come in, the band need a new drummer. Don't go running off to phone the Samaritans to pour out your grief at Tom Possessed leaving though, he's still here, but just wants to do vocals, hence the need for a drummer. If you or someone you know wants to drum for a death/thrash metal band, has their own kit and is prepared to rehearse weekends and holidays, email us NOW!! Right. Next, our brothers in arms and buddies in crew royale-in' it up, EFD, are playing another gig on Thursday April 11 2002 at the Twist, and you'd better be there, if only because Tom Possessed may be doing guest vocals on one of their new songs. Finally, due to some technical upgrades, you will have noticed even more pictures of us appearing on the site, doing what we do best, i.e. trying to play really cool music. Too much emphasis on the trying at the moment though... Fret not, my chickens, we will return, and when we do we'll blast your fucking nuts off. 19/1/02 What can I say. The gig at the Twist fuckin' ruled- our set went down amazingly, with the crowd chanting our name in a wild frenzy, and EFD were a fucking amazing headline act, having come a long way since their last gig in Chappel. After DC's 20 minute set the crowd seemed extremely impressed, and there were only a few minor, unnticeable slip-ups, down to nerves more than anything else. The DC set kicked off with "Intro" by Sepultura, which got the heads nodding in the crowd, and then all fucking hell broke loose in the pit as the band moved swiftly into a cover of "Seek and Destroy" by Metallica, with Inhumatus on vocals. Then the real shit went down with a DC original, "Six Feet Under And Rising," which was compared afterwards to Sepultura and Napalm Death in its intensity, with Tom Possessed taking charge of the vocal duties, Inhumatus unleashing his distorted bass thunder on an unsuspecting crowd and Chainsaw pulling off a hellraising solo. Then into the grindcore free-for-all that is "All Hope Is Lost," a short but shit-heavy song about the dying Earth. Finally, the 3-song, 10-minutes plus finale, a medley of Sepultura's "Troops Of Doom," "Live and Let Die" from the James Bond film of the same name, and the epic "Seasons In The Abyss" by Slayer. There will shortly be photos from the gig up on the site, and a live video recorded by Satanic Rich should shortly available. We're also hoping that someone who was at the gig will review it for the site so those who missed it can find out what they were deprived of. Finally, just days after the gig, Tom Possessed has finished writing "Soldier Of Fortune," pending the approval of his fellow band members, and it looks to be a heavy-as-fuck pit-friendly 6 minute long journey to Hell and back in the eyes of a soldier exposed to the horrors of war. You don't want to miss our next gig... 3/1/02 Happy New Year, hope you had a good Christmas, and the first DC gig is now only a fortnight away! Although the band have pulled out of the party in Wivenhoe for logistical reasons, we will be supporting EFD at the Twist on the 17th, tickets £3 or £2 direct from us. We've had three rehearsals over the Christmas period, and have come up with a medley for our finale which Inhumatus reportedly said "will rule." To find out what it is you'll have to come along, or buy the live video or demo tape which we are hoping to make available soon.
